Happy Victoria Day!

It’s a holiday Monday in Canada. Victoria day. Happy Victoria Day to my fellow Canadians – I hope you had a nice burst of heat as we did in Southwestern Ontario and that you enjoyed the extra time with your loved ones. I had a big task list that I wanted to get through with the extra day. I touched a little on each but none were fully completed. Here’s the run-down. 1. Garage – I’ve been following Org Junkie’s The Great Garage Clean Out Challenge. It’s very inspirational. We have a rafter that we rotate seasonal items onto. I

Laundry and Outdoor Line Drying

I’ve never been very motivated to line dry my clothes. I don’t always have the energy or the time to hang the clothes outside. There are many good reasons why I should line dry. It is free (even though when I do use the dryer I wait until low $ times. It is definitely green. And I suppose I could count some exercise for the albeit small bit of activity. Plus, I can hang while the kids are outside playing in the yard (it’s not like they want me to play with them – much too independent for me now).

Princess Costumes, Begone!

I made a response to a comment on my Household Projects post. This comment has inspired me to tell you of my exciting decision to purge the dress up section. Since I have a home daycare and children of various ages and developmental levels at any given time, I find it difficult to get rid of toys that are not broken (I’m really good at getting rid of those!). Every time I go to get rid of toys I get confused, doubt myself, question if I will one day need it for future clients, and then end up leaving all the

Decluttering

As I am working through the whole house, room by room, I am making progress slowly but surely. The second floor (bedrooms) is done and I keep planning on a specific room at a time for the main floor but corners of the basement are getting done also since the stuff from the bedrooms has made its way downstairs, and the main floor also needs things brought to the basement and room made for it. I don’t want to just dump it and make for a huge basement clean up so this is why I do corners of the other

Clearing the Kitchen

Since I am in the kitchen cleaning, decluttering and organizing this week, this post was really helpful. Below is my summary of her points. For the full post, visit Money Saving Mom. Counter Tops / Table Keep trash and recycling bins close by Use a junk drawer Implement a system for papers Create zones Practice daily maintenance  Cabinets / Drawers Use dishes, glasses, pots, bowls, and storage containers that stack nicely inside each other Toss any containers that don’t have lids, any lids that don’t have containers, and anything that is cracked, rusty, melted, or broken Get creative and find

Organizing Christmas Decorations

I have been very focused on my  mission to declutter. I have cleared a whole lot of clutter from my home. I have been spending each week on a zone and have made significant progress on the house. Today I can even see a clear space in the play room where I was storing the Christmas bins. The bins have been purged, organized, and have found a home under the stairs with the other holiday bins. I think it could be shrunk from three to two bins but each Christmas will let me go through things further when we see

Daughter’s Room

Isn’t it amazing how one day all of the kids toys are “special” and so they creep into their bedrooms where nobody else can find them? Ava has a toy hammock in her room where we store stuffed animals and dolls. Today I took a big bag of stuffed animals from my daughter’s room and put them in the daycare area. I also put her smaller toys in the bottom drawer of her dresser. It’s easily accessible AND off her floor. This is just a temporary solution until I clean out her closet and then decide on a toy box

Paused Purge Urge

I managed to go through Travis’s toys and clothes drawers. I did clear out his main closet and donated two large diaper boxes and a large wipes case worth of clothes and other random items I found in there. I know I’m going to have to go through the closet again but I ran out of motivation. There is also the other closet which holds “other” items that I have no idea where to move/what to do with. I really need to strike those two closets while the purge urge is strong. I admit it, I’m a bit tired but

Son’s Bedroom

Amazing how the bedrooms become a holding place for “special” things. Since I have a home daycare this is especially an area to watch because my children are to put all toys they do not wish to share there. Some days we don’t want to share anything, it seems. I started with my son’s toys and books and have a good pile of books to give away plus I have managed to re-dedicate some of the toys that can be part of the daycare (which I will further sort when I get to the playroom). I know from cleaning my

Organizing Update

I feel like I have accomplished a lot so far in getting the house organized. There have been several bags of things donated to date. I love to just walk into the rooms that have been decluttered (master bedroom, bathroom and closet) and just sit, enjoying the “nothing” and cleared space. I am keeping my motivation and have big plans to move more out of the house as I venture into the other rooms and see all of the stuff just sitting there. The kids rooms, art supplies and play room are the big ones but I’m itching to get
