Home Organization 101: The Office ~ Part 1

Last week was the office in the Home Organization 101 challenge. I’ve had a cold slow me down for the past two plus weeks so not much in the house has been looked at. Yesterday I got the kids to help me do a good cleaning of the house. Today I’m going to look at the office which is also my craft room. Since it’s so overwhelming for me to go in there I’ve decided to do it by corner and/or craft. MEMORY KEEPINGThis morning it’s the scrap booking corner. For my memory keeping friends, what system do you have

Home Organization 101 – Kitchen & Pantry Update

Yesterday I explained I’ve been working hard to catch up in the kitchen challenges Toni has created in her Home Organization 101 challenge. I just did the kitchen this summer but this is an area that seems to breed a mess all on it’s own. PANTRYHere is Toni’s pantry challenge checklist if you want to join in. In her post Toni reveals her pantry organization – it’s very motivating as she’s done such a fantastic job! My pantry (a little less motivating) is more of a long cupboard instead of a proper closet pantry. I make it work for us

Home Organization 101 – Pantry & Kitchen Week

I’m working on the kitchen this week. The pantry is complete. Today I spent 5 hours on what I thought had already been organized and cleaned – and that was only one corner of the kitchen! This summer I reorganized and moved our lunch containers, snacks and baking cupboards. I’m tweaking what has worked and not worked while cleaning through the cupboards again. I will post before and afters as soon as it’s done. If you want to get moving on your organizing this fall, join me in A Bowl Full of Lemon’s Home Organization 101 challenge. Let me know

Organizing Arts & Crafts

Today the kids are visiting their grandparents. I decided it would be a great time to go through the house, put stray items in their place, recycle art to make room for the new ones they will be bringing home from school soon, and a quick dusting. Somehow I’m finding myself now organizing the activity books and colouring pages – we have so many I need to donate and “re gift” pile them. I pulled out the previously organized books (that nobody has used) from the Game Area. I also need to clear out a bottom drawer to make the

My Back to School List

I checked out a bunch of back to school lists. Great shopping lists but I find that none of them are really applicable to junior kindergarten and the teachers where we attend school provide their own supply list on the first day of school. What I really wanted was a “what do I do to get ready for school” list. So I created my own. A fall-cleaning/figure out the needs list for clothing, shoes, jackets, boots, school bags, etc. Sort through dress shoes, sandals/water shoes/crocs, running shoes, rain boots, winter boots. Sort through jackets by season spring/fall, winter, rain plus

Garage ~ Picture

This has been such a long process. I started to update you on June 4, 2012 with this post and then again on July 6, 2012 with this post. I’m just so grateful that it is done. To remind you, this was before in our garage. I am happy to report that my minivan now comfortably fits here. The items are put in a more appropriate home or sold/donated. Whew!

Kids, The Garage and Sewing Project Update

Holy heat wave here in Southern Ontario. When it’s hot out my brain gets mushy and I come up with little that is worthy of mentioning on the blog, especially since I don’t accomplish much when I’m too hot. Summer holidays have started this week for the children. Ava is now going into Grade 1 and Travis will enter full time Junior Kindergarten in September. I remember thinking when Travis was a baby that September 2012 would be so far away and here we are approaching it in a few months. Good thing about him being a January baby is

The Bathroom Part 2

A project that should have been done in a weekend is still under way. Here are the BEFORE shots. A lovely red that went well with a white pedestal sink but, as you can see, it clashes with the green counter and the cherry wood making it look orange. Since it was such a dark colour of paint, we needed to prime it. I felt it important to do this step even though we bought a primer-and-paint-in-one. Here is were we stand during the paint job with it all whited out. The challenge is that we have 9 foot ceilings

The Garage

I was planning to join Org Junkie on her “The Great Garage Clean-Out Challenge” but, my efforts have been hi-jacked. Let me explain. I’ve been doing great at helping my parents empty THEIR garage for their pending move but I’ve been getting stuff in our garage as a result (even though I’m being very careful of what I am taking to our home). I’m afraid to even post a photo it’s so full!! The good news is that, before the items make it into the house, they will have a space cleared out for them and I will be getting
