YARN: The Movie

Initial Introduction to the Movie This weekend I watched the movie “YARN”. I originally learned about it after having watched Vickie Howell’s interview with the co-directors/producers Heather Millard & Thordur Jonsson. My interest piqued when Vickie explained that it really is a documentary about yarn. I wondered, what does the documentary have to say about yarn for an entire movie? Apparently a lot! Yarn In The World The movie explored yarn and how it is being used as art and function world-wide. It is fascinating how many ways knit and crochet fiber artists uniquely bring yarn into the world for

Christmas Movies

I don’t know how single parents do it. I applaud you if you are one. Lately I have had a full group of daycare kids as contracts end and overlap with other contracts beginning. It’s good timing with Christmas expenses so I’m not complaining. It is make me one tired person though. And all these fun holiday movies that are on starting at 8PM make it hard to adhere to my early bedtime. Who can resist such heart warming stories. And they are on “W” (the “women’s” channel) so they are geared as chick flicks, cute leading men and stories

Movie Review ~ The Jesus Series, Life and Miracles

Description ~ Take a wonder-filled journey with Jesus and His disciples. The Jesus Series introduces children to the life of Christ. This DVD is an uninterrupted half-hour presentation of Jesus’ ministry along the shores of Lake Galilee and the villages near Nazareth. Children will see Jesus call His disciples, feed 5,000 people, heal the sick, teach about God’s kingdom and introduce the Lord’s Supper. This DVD completes The Jesus Series by presenting the life of Christ in a way that little ones can understand and build a solid foundation on. My Review ~ I popped in the DVD for the kids

Book Review ~ The Moonlit Cage and Charlie Wilson’s War

The Moonlit Cage: A Novel by Linda Holeman My review rating: 5 of 5 stars This novel provided me with an understanding of Afghanistan and India and the life of women, arranged marriages and culture from the 1850s. I enjoyed watching the protagonist, Darya, survive in a multitude of situations, mainly beyond her control, and journey into womanhood. Coincidentally I had also borrowed the movie “Charlie Wilson’s War” and it was about current-day USA efforts in Afghanistan. Not to spoil the movie so I will use basic thoughts here, however, the lack of follow-through on the part of the United

Movie Review ~ “Billy Elliot”

This movie was very fun also. A little hard to understand the accents but it was about a young boy who would prefer to take ballet lessons than boxing lessons – much to the chagrin of his on-strike-miner father and older brother. When they realise that he does have talent the family bands together and he eventually auditions to be accepted into the Royal Ballet School. Two of my favourite parts are when Billy walks over to his friends house and he answers the door wearing a dress. Billy’s expression is priceless but more-so is the way he just accepts

Movie Review ~”Flicka”

My son Travis (7 months old) and I just finished watching Flicka. It was a really sweet story of a girl who is passionate about horses. Her family has a quarter horse ranch. One day she finds a wild mustang on the land and brings it home. It’s a nice family movie about horses and Travis loved the horses too!
