Back to School Crochet Dress

In the nick of time (last Friday) I finished the final stitches on this adorable back to school dress for my daughter’s first day of grade 3.I used a variegated cotton yarn to keep it cool. Can you tell the part where I started a new ball on the dress? (hint it’s where the zigs really zag!). The fun of variegated yarn is that you have no control over how it will work up. I do like the sass it adds to the skirt. More importantly, my daughter loves it and wore it Saturday as well as the first day!

Stitch-cation Summer Crochet Challenge – Popcorn Blocks

I am participating in The Crochet Crowd’s Stitch-cation Summer Crochet Challenge. Here are my first blocks using the “popcorn” stitch. In addition to learning new stitches for the blocks we are being challenged to use at least 8 different colours. I will make an afghan with all the blocks in this challenge.

Rejuvenation

The past two weeks we enjoyed a family vacation. The first week we spent it at my parent’s cottage and the second week we enjoyed my in-laws. As the children grow so quickly and we all have busy schedules during the school year, it is nice to slow down, unwind and catch up with family. I was very ambitious in the crochet projects I packed but I did successfully get the following worked on: Monster University’s Mikey Crochet Along   I wrote about Mikey on my craft blog, The Ruthless Crafter if you want to see where I got the

Crochet Bearded Santa Hat

This past Winter 2014 I designed this Santa hat and beard for my 6 year old son based on the Cabbage Patch craze. It was the perfect hat for the cold winter that just passed. I created this pattern but did not write it down. To make it I mashed a few different patterns. Check out my Ravelry page to see more details on the patterns I referenced if you want to make your own.

Monster’s University Mystery Crochet-Along

This was a really fun crochet-along and the first one I’ve ever participated in by The Crochet Crowd. The final touches were the most fun as it became a family affair. Hubby came up with the idea of a uni-brow, Grandma J came up with the idea to make it fuzzy, and my 6 year old son wanted the mouth and teeth just so. Not sure you can tell but the bottom tooth is a half-tooth to represent my son’s new half-grown bottom tooth. Monster was completed July 29, 2014

The Ruthless Crafter

Knit, Crochet & Quilts by Elizabeth theruthlesscrafter.wordpress.com It has been far too long since I have been here. I needed a bit of breathing room to re-evaluate where this blog was going and what I am going to do now that next month my baby is entering grade one and my eldest is entering grade 3!! I am still doing my home daycare business but I feel that I need something *more*. Ever feel like that? After months (yes, I realise it has been 6 months!!) of brainstorming I have finally decided to open an online eBoutique as well as

Skillet Handle Covers FREE Crochet Pattern

Someone I know has skillets with metal handles. When I cook with them I always burn my hands. I saw this pattern online and knew it would be the perfect little extra gift for their Christmas gift bag. Thanks to Tasty Crochet for posting this FREE pattern. If you make it, remember to use cotton yarn as acrylic blends will melt with the heat!

Crochet Minion Hats FREE Pattern

In October my son’s Kindergarten class was learning about colours. To help them review they were asked to wear coordinating colours. One of the set days was Minion day (from the movie “Despicable Me”). What better excuse to make him a Minion hat to wear! Of course my daughter also wanted one. Thanks to this FREE crochet pattern from Crochet by Jennifer – they were very easy to make. I also had the kids wear blue pants and a yellow top so they looked like full body minions. Too cute. My 7 year old daughter chose the two-eyed minion option. She also
