The “Page 123” Meme

The “It’s A Woman’s World!” blog always has interesting memes so here is the “page 123” one. The rules are pretty simple:1. Pick up the nearest book.2. Open to page 1233. Find the fifth sentence.4. Post the next three sentences.5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you. “Marriage is a commitment, but at least my husband can feed himself and go to the bathroom on his own! For my work in various roles, I had undergone intensive training of my voice and body, but nothing could have prepared me for the rigors of motherhood. Rowan came without a call

Diaper Debate – disposables vs gdiapers vs cloth

My husband and I have been having this debate in our house for a while. He found this article and it summarizes all our points very well. The final paragraph lists his researched Cost and Estimated Time Spent, Pros and Cons. The link where you can find the full article is …http://lifestyle.msn.com/green/greenarticleab.aspx?cp-documentid=8150609&GT1=45002* * * * *Excepts from “A Man of the Cloth: One Dad Gives Up Disposable Diapers” by Sam AppleWhy Give Cloth a Try?One day, after reading another grim article about climate change, I had the idea that I should at least experiment with using cloth diapers for my

Neti Pot

The definition provided by Wikipedia for a Neti pot is: “Nasal irrigation is a personal hygiene practice which involves flooding the nasal cavity with warm saline solution (salt water). The goal of nasal irrigation is to clear out excess mucus and particulates and moisturize the nasal cavity. Either a fluid-filled syringe or a neti pot can be used. The practice has been subjected to clinical testing and has been found to be safe and beneficial, with no apparent side effects.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasal_irrigationI was watching Oprah and Dr. Oz was discussing (with an audience volunteer demonstration) Neti Pots. I have been suffering

Neiman Marcus Cookie Recipe

I am not sure if this recipe works but I figured – what the hey … * * * * *I love it when the little guy strikes back! A little background: Neiman-Marcus, if you don’t know already, is a very expensive store; i.e., they sell your typical $8.00 T-shirt for $50.00. Let’s let them have it! THIS IS A TRUE STORY! My daughter and I had just finished a salad at a Neiman-Marcus Cafe in Dallas , and we decided to have a small dessert. Because both of us are such cookie lovers, we decided to try the “Neiman-Marcus

Listerine as a Mosquito Spray

I got this email forwarded to me and I cannot wait to try it out – especially with young kids it seems less harmful than the other products on the market (if it works!). “I was at a deck party a while back and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine and the little demons disappeared. The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes. And voila! That worked as well. It worked at a picnic

Being pregnant (last summer) and now nursing I am unable to take a regular anti-histamine. I have found at the health store a homeopathic option called Lufeel (I take only the tablet but they also have the nasal spray to go with it) that I am very pleased with. From what I understand, because it is homeopathic it goes to the source of the problem rather than mask the symptoms. I can take it as I need it too instead of one dose in a 12 hour or 24 hour period and there is no drowsiness. I am very pleased

Tea Tree Oil

I was at the Ontario Early Years Centre this week (a play place for children ages 0-6) and after changing a diaper I went to use a no-water hand sanitizer. Instead of the traditional alcohol-based one they had tea tree oil with hand lotion in a pump. When I inquired they told me it was as good or better than the “Purell” they had previously used and because there were small children, if they ingested it the product was non-toxic. I was most interested. I was further informed that if you put a few drops (that is all you need!)

All of a sudden I am on this environmental kick. I do child care for two children, ages 1 and 2 years, plus my own two children, ages 4 months and 2 years. Between the four children I was changing around 20 diapers per day! This was making me feel really guilty so I did some research to find out what local options there were that were realistic and affordable for our lifestyle. Part of my guilt includes the fact that “last year alone, 18-23 billion diapers went into landfills across America. That works out to be approximately 38,000 every
