Baby’s Memory Blanket

One of my sorority sisters asked me to make her a blanket using her son’s blankets and baby clothes. I used 98% of the baby items on the front and the back. I also used a layer of cotton batting plus a layer of polyester mid-loft to give it that extra coziness you can see. I chose a free-hand meander on my long-arm machine to give it just enough density to make the negative space puff up. My “sister” and I were both proud of how it turned out. Thank you for letting me help you cherish your son’s baby

Leg Warmers are Back!

I loved wearing leg warmers as a kid (yes, in the 80s!). I have been so cold lately that I have been avoiding skirts and stockings. I wonder if I whip up a pair (or two) if I will be more inclined to don dressier clothes and stay warm at the same time. Though I do see the fashion includes them being worn over jeans too. Hmmm… I did a quick Pinterest search for leg warmers that has some fun and easy patterns to make. Craftsy also did a round-up of knitted leg warmer patterns (I’m not sure if they are

Barn Quilts

My in-laws live in a small northern Ontario town. On our way up from southern Ontario we pass many farms. As a quilter I have noticed many barns that have “barn quilts” on them and have always wondered about the significance and admired the beauty and uniqueness of each block. I have wondered if they were wood or fabric pieces too. Perhaps there were a few of each as we zipped by. Sewing with Nancy recently posted about barn quilts and it intrigued me to do some searching. Interestingly enough, there are  actual Ontario Barn Quilt Trails. Have you noticed barn

Elf on the Shelf Mischief & Idea Calendar

My daughter (8 years old) was teasing her brother by pretending to touch our Elf on the Shelf, Carol, yesterday. I didn’t witness it but our 6 year old son was very upset about it – she loses her Christmas magic if you touch her, after all! It’s hard to come up with new locations for Carol to visit, so this was the perfect inspiration to inform the children that maybe Carol didn’t want to be touched and this was the best way to protect herself. The look on her face was priceless when she put it together that since

2015 Official Colour of the Year

Marsala has been chosen for the colour of 2015. Photo Credit: The Inspired Wren blog Interested in using it in your home? Check out Houzz’s ideas here.  I personally prefer it either in natural light or a slightly darker hue. I think I prefer the crafting option for using it. Here, The Inspired Wren looks at some sewing examples with the colour. There are definitely a lot of options to have it as a focal point (e.g. a cardigan) or a highlight (e.g. flowers in a white dress). Beautiful! What do you think of Marsala? How would or will you use it?
